Section III.  OPERATION UNDER USUAL CONDITIONS 2-5. GENERAL. 2-5 a. If possible operate the pyrometer and thermocouple tester in a sheltered area where there are no extremes of temperature, moisture, or dust-laden wind.  Under these moderate conditions the inspection and service intervals can be reduced. b. When moving the tester from one normal ambient temperature to another in preparation for a test, allow it to stabilize at the new temperature for 15 minutes before commencing the tests.  Protect the pyrometer and thermocouple tester when not in operation by keeping it in a sheltered area. c. After the completion of a test use a soft cloth to wipe the accumulated dust and finger prints off of the instrument panel and viewing glass on the voltmeter.  With the tester resting on a bench top and the instrument panel approximately level adjust the voltmeter's zero adjust so that the pointer is coincident with the zero mark. Section IV.  OPERATION UNDER UNUSUAL CONDITIONS 2-6. OPERATION IN EXTREME HEAT. 2-6 a. Protect the pyrometer and thermocouple tester from the direct rays of the sun by building a temporary shelter. b. Set the tester in a shaded area when not in use. 2-7. OPERATION IN EXTREME COLD. 2-7 a. Protect the pyrometer and thermocouple tester from sleet, snow, or freezing rain by building a temporary shelter. Keep the tester's cover partially closed when the instrument controls are not being used. b. Set the tester in a moisture-free area when not in use. 2-13
