TM  55-4920-400-13 Section V. FRONT  PANEL  ASSEMBLY  OVERHAUL 3-11.  General.  The   AVIM   maintenance   person- nel are authorized to overhaul the instruments and tester  as  specified  in  the  Maintenance  Allocation Chart.  The  equipment  must  be  restored  to  a  com- pletely  serviceable  condition  as  prescribed  by  ser- viceability  standards  developed  and  published  by technical services. Maximum utilization of diagnos- tic  and  test  equipment  is  combined  with  minimum disassembly  of  the  item  during  the  overhaul process. 3-12.  Instrument   Overhaul.   The  removal  and installation   of   the   instruments   is   to   be   accom- plished in accordance with the applicable technical Section VI. SHIPMENT,  STORAGE, 3-14.  Scope.  This  section  covers  methods  and  in- structions for preparation of material for shipment within  and  outside  the  continental  United  States, and  for  limited  storage,  and  the  maintenance  of equipment  in  storage.  Also  covered  are  methods  of destroying the equipment when in danger of immi- nent capture, in order to prevent enemy use. 3-15.   Safety   Precautions.   Handle   the   tester with care at all times and place in upright position as indicated on the crate. CAUTION Handle the tester with care as the del- icate instruments can easily be dam- aged by shock. Refer   to   Military   Standard   MIL   STD-129   for marking  of  package. 3-16.  Indefinite  Storage. a.  Inspection.   Prior  to  storage,  inspect  the tester and accessories as instructed in paragraph 2- 3. b. Preventive Maintenance Services.  Perform the  before  operation  services.  Ensure  that  the equipment is in proper working condition. c. Type of Container. Use the original shipping cartons  and  packaging  materials.  Refer  to  para- graph 2-1. d.  Packaging.  When  the  original  shipping  car- tons  are  not  available,  refer  to  Military  Specifica- tion  MIL-P-116  for  packaging,  Military  Specifica- tion  MIL-B-131  for  use  of  vapor  barrier  material, and  Military  Specification  MIL-D-3464  for  use  of manuals for the part numbers as listed below: Instrument Part   No. Rate-of-climb  Indicator MS28049 Altimeter MS28044-1 Airspeed  Indicator MSMS28021-1 Manifold  Press  Gauge AN5770-5 (MS28077-1) Fuel  Pressure  Gauge MS28061-1 3-13.  Tester  Overhaul.  Overhaul   the   instru- ments  as  instructed  in  paragraph  3-12.  Overhaul the  remainder  of  the  tester  components  in  accord- ance with instructions in Chapter 2. AND  DEMOLITION  OF  MATERIAL desiccants. 3-17.  Limited  Storage. a. Limited  storage  is  defined  as  periods  up  to  6 months. b. Prior to storage, inspect the tester and acces- sories, as instructed in paragraph 2-3. c. Perform the before operation services. Ensure that the equipment is in proper working condition. d. Use the original carton or other suitable con- tainer  to  provide  some  protection  during  limited storage. e.  Store  the  package  in  a  dry  and  sheltered location. 3-18. Inspection  and  Maintenance  of  Equip ment  While  in  Limited  Storage. a. Interval of inspection, and maintenance of the tester while in storage will be 30 days after initial storage and at the end of each 30-day period there- after. b. Remove  any  accumulation  of  dirt  before  in- specting the tester. c. Inspect  for  damage,  deterioration,  corrosion, leakage,   and   pilferage.   Rectify   or   report   as necessary. CAUTION Handle the tester with care as the del- icate instruments can easily be dam- aged by shock. 3-19.  Packaging.  Refer  to  Military  Specification MIL-P- 116 for the type of containers to be used and the method of packaging.
